Research
Period:
October 2006 – January 2007
Research under the Artists’ Programme at
Chisenhale Dance Space, London.
Site Investigated:
St Paul’s Cathedral
Rationale:
To investigate how a place acquires a quality
of spirit over time, as people and historical
events pass through and around it, leaving traces.
To investigate topoanalysis; how we are
intimate with certain places, and through this
intimacy how we are intimate with ourselves. To
study sacred space as a defined area
that has a boundary.
Notes on Process:
I walked along the south bank and the perimeter
of St Paul’s. I used techniques of mapping
to translate these pathways to the studio. I used
sound, body movements, walking rhythms, flour
prints and string alignments – to deepen
the investigations of the above objectives.
